Interview with Shari Leidich - Founder - Know Brainer Foods
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shari Leidich, founder, and CEO of Know Brainer Foods, located in Boulder, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We make zero-sugar confections with maximum nutrition and zero guilt. Delivering best-for-you products to the everyday consumer.
Tell us about yourself
In 2004, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which put me on a path of healing. I learned food was the key to restoring balance in my body. I created organic, sprouted raw snacks and crackers, leading to the launch of my first company, Two Moms in the Raw. In 2016, I turned my attention to the ketogenic diet and founded Know Brainer Foods. When I eliminate sugar from my diet, I feel better. In 2019, we made the first zero sugar marshmallow fueled with collagen, MCT oil. I create products out of my need to heal myself and my consumers.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Taking complicated ingredients and making them into products that are accessible and affordable for the consumer. Not only did I succeed by doing this with Two Moms in the Raw, but I have also done this with Know Brainer Foods and Max Sweets.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
These days, it's finding the right people to do the job. There are very few of us running Know Brainer, and we wear all of the hats.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Your product must be relevant and disruptive to be successful.
- Know the key roles in your business you rely on, find the right people to fill them, and give them a piece of your company.
- Pay attention to your success online.
